How is the Spanish of northern Mexico different from the Spanish of the rest of the country?

I am planning to visit northern Mexico later this year and am learning the dialect of Spanish in Mexico for that reason. Can anyone tell me what the main differences between the Spanish in northern Mexico (eg, of Monterrey) and the Spanish spoken in the rest of Mexico? Also, I found the following words “child” in Spanish: MuchahoChamacoChavoChicoNinoLo I want to know is, what the words above is the most commonly used in Monterrey or in northern Mexico?
